Beware of Scam Calls

7/8/2025

While we hope this never happens, many people will become victims of a financial phone scam. These calls can be highly convincing, they may claim to be an employee of a trusted organization that you are affiliated with. The scammers will create a sense of urgency by insinuating there is a problem with your account. Their mission is to convince you to provide your passwords and personal information.

How to Spot a Scam Call

  1. Unexpected Contact: If you receive a call out of the blue claiming to be from RiverLand, be cautious. Scammers often use urgency to pressure you into making hasty decisions.
  2. Request for Personal Information: RiverLand will never ask for sensitive information such as your full Social Security number, account passwords, or PINs over the phone.
  3. Caller ID Spoofing: Scammers can manipulate caller ID to make it appear as though the call is coming from RiverLand. Always verify the caller's identity by calling our official number 504.576.5800.
  4. Unusual Payment Requests: Be wary if the caller asks for payment through unconventional methods like gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.
  5. Threats and Pressure: Scammers often use threats of account suspension or legal action to create a sense of urgency. A legitimate credit union will never threaten you in this manner.

What RiverLand Will Never Ask

  • Full Social Security Number
  • Account Passwords or PINs
  • Credit/Debit Card Information: We will never ask for your full credit or debit card number, CVV, or expiration date.

Protecting YourselfBe

  • Verify the Caller: If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and call your credit union directly using the official number listed on their website or your account statement.
  • Report Suspicious Activity: Inform your credit union immediately if you suspect you have been targeted by a scam.
  • Stay Informed: Regularly check your account statements and credit reports for any unauthorized transactions.

Always remember you are the most important layer of defense against attackers. You should always verify everything, across all forms of communication. By staying aware and informed, you can protect yourself from falling victim to these scams. Remember, RiverLand is here to help you, and you can always reach out to us with any concerns or questions.

Stay safe and secure!
